The Gospel Alone Offers True Riches

Throughout the New Testament, Jesus and the apostles speak about eternal riches. These riches come from God through the life-changing Good News Gospel of Jesus Christ, and are ours to enjoy now—and for all eternity.

Jesus Himself spoke often about the folly of laying up temporary treasures and wealth here on earth. Speaking rather bluntly, He asked the crowds: “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and yet lose his soul?” Instead, Jesus Christ alone offers us “true riches” [Luke 16:11].

The apostle Paul picks up on this and speaks of “the riches of God’s grace” [Ephesians 1:7], “the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints” [1:18], “the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus” [2:7], “the unsearchable riches of Christ” [3:8], and “his glorious riches” [3:16]. Paul also describes the “glorious riches” and “full riches” of the gospel of Jesus Christ [Colossians 1:27, 2:2].

In a world gone half insane over the instant and temporal, the Bible is quite clear: The Good News, and the Good News alone, offers true riches – eternal riches.

Let’s never forget that, and let’s reach our world with that truth.
