Guarding Our Hearts and Minds
The Bible has a lot to say about our hearts and minds. God constantly searches them. He has placed the life-changing Good News Gospel in our hearts and minds.
Best of all, the Spirit of Jesus Christ has come to dwell in us and always longs to fill us. In turn, His filling produces good fruit, including love, joy, and peace.
What’s more, the Bible says that if we pray to God with thanksgiving, He guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. “Guard” is vital because the world, the flesh, and the Devil want nothing more than to derail and contaminate our hearts and minds.
In Proverbs 4:23, Solomon advised, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” Yet, Solomon let his own guard down, walked away from the Lord, and worshipped despicable idols. Tragically, at least for a time, almost every good king of Judah let down his guard, as well. Carelessness is risky. Even for us who love and follow Jesus Christ.
In marked contrast, the apostles and other New Testament heroes of the faith loved the Lord Jesus and stood strong for Him until death.
Before his martyrdom, Paul could say: “I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day” [2 Timothy 1:12].
Let’s do the same, you and I.
