When Jesus Prayed a Desperate Prayer

What do your prayers sound like during the worst seasons of your life?

Do you have a harder time bringing negative emotions before God in prayer? Maybe you don’t want to seem ungrateful or don’t want God to think you’re complaining.

Honestly, God is okay with you bringing the full range of your emotions—positive and negative—before Him in prayer. We know this because that’s what Jesus did.

When Jesus knew He was soon to be brutally crucified for the sins of the world, He prayed a desperate prayer. He asked God to remove that suffering, yet He was ultimately surrendered to God’s will.

Jesus said,

“Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet, your will to be done, not mine.”

My friend, when you are in agony of spirit, like Jesus was at that pivotal moment, bring it all to God in prayer.

He loves you. He will not be offended by your emotions. He is the one who can help.

“He loves you. He will not be offended by your emotions. He is the one who can help.”

Luke 22:42

“Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”
