Jesus and the Widow

How does Jesus view our suffering and our grief? There is an amazing story in Luke 7.

Jesus passed by a dead boy being carried out of the town – the only son of a widow. When He saw her, His heart went out to her and He said to her, “Don’t cry.” Then He goes up and says to the young man, “I say to you, get up!” And the boy is healed. The people were filled with awe.

Here’s what I love about this story.  Jesus voluntarily chooses to be a part of this situation.

  • He didn’t have to stop, but He did.

  • He didn’t have to care, but He did.

  • He didn’t have to talk to her, but He did. He said, “Don’t cry.”

  • He didn’t have to heal, but He did.

He doesn’t have to help us, but He does. God has come to help His people. Always remember, there is hope with God.

“He doesn’t have to help us, but He does. God has come to help His people.”

Luke 7:13

“When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said.”
