Finding Yourself

We’re told to find ourselves. That the only way to walk through the world authentically is to figure out who we are.

I did this for years and it was stunning how selfish I became. We’re told you must love yourself to find yourself, but this is a lie; I’ve learned it from experience.

Jesus came and He gave Himself away. He came not to find Himself, but to find others, to find us. He gave His own life for ours, and He says… “this is the way, if you live to find your life you will lose it. But if you lose your life for My sake you’ll find it.”

C.S. Lewis says it so beautifully: “Look for yourself, and you will find in the long run only hatred, loneliness, despair, rage, ruin, and decay. But look for Christ, and you will find Him, and with Him everything else thrown in.”

“Jesus came and He gave Himself away. He came not to find Himself, but to find others, to find us.”

Matthew 10:39

“If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.”
