A Shelter in the Storm
Where I live in Portland, Oregon, we don't get a lot of severe weather. But one winter, we had a terrible snowstorm.
Traffic came to a standstill, all the schools and stores were closed, and the ice and the snow made it so treacherous you couldn't go out.
But inside my home, I felt safe, and it was restful to sit by the fire and look at the beautiful snowy scene outside. I loved it.
Our lives can be like that. Tough situations come up. Bad things happen to us. We feel as though we just had a bunch of snow dumped on us, burying us.
That's when we need shelter, a refuge. When life gets crazy, God is our calm in the storm. In Him, we are safe.
The Bible talks about God as a sanctuary. In Psalm 119, we read, "You are my refuge and my shield. I have put my hope in your word."
When we retreat to God, we can look out into the storm of our lives with clarity, wisdom, and peace.
