What is Hope?

Hope is a common word. We use it often. “I hope it doesn’t rain.” “I hope this cake turns out okay.”  We use it for important things as well: “I hope my son gets the job.” “I hope the cancer goes away.”

Hope is a feeling, an emotion, but it is also a verb. It means to look forward to something with desire and reasonable confidence. Without hope people lose the will to persevere.

When my daughter hopes for snow on a bright September day – that is wishful thinking. But real hope is attainable. It is a rock-solid trust and expectation, and it is found in a person – Jesus Himself.

He invites you to put your faith in Him and experience hope that, as the Bible says, is “an anchor for our souls.” (Hebrews 6:19)

Hebrews 6:19

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.”
