The Name, Jesus

When Mary, Jesus’s mother, became pregnant with Him by the Holy Spirit, she was told by the angel to name Him Jesus, which means “the Lord saves.”

He’s also called Immanuel, which means “God with us.” The implications of this are so beautiful to me. His name is Jesus – the Lord saves. And He is called Immanuel – God with us.

He has done all the work on the cross. The absolute completion of all that is needed. And He is also with us. His presence is our comfort, our help, our hope.

How beautiful is this Jesus! The One who is named Savior, and the One who is called God with us. I pray this stuns and moves you as it does me.

“How beautiful is this Jesus! The One who is named Savior, and the One who is called God with us.”

Matthew 1:23

“Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’”
