Strength

I am always awed to watch the weightlifters in the Olympics raising barbells weighing 300 pounds and more over their heads. They strain mightily to hold that pose, their muscles trembling from the tremendous effort.

It looks like such an impossible feat to me, but I’m only your ordinary guy who lifts just a suitcase or a bag of groceries.

There are times in my life when I feel like such a weakling. Not physically, but spiritually. I often ask God for strength to face what is ahead of me, and He comes alongside and holds me up. I’m so glad I can turn to Him for that kind of support.

Jesus demonstrated yet another kind of strength when He was here on earth. Instead of amazing everyone with a mind-blowing display of power, He served people with love and humility.

The Bible calls it meekness. That’s the kind of strength I would like to show to those around me – wouldn’t you?

“Instead of amazing everyone with a mind-blowing display of power, He (Jesus) served people with love and humility.”

Matthew 5:5

“God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.”
