Spiritual Wisdom

The wisest person who ever lived was Solomon, back in Bible times. Some of his wisdom has been distilled in the book of Proverbs, which contains a lot of sage advice.

Solomon himself said, “Wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.”

Many of the Proverbs we could also call common sense. For example – “Lazy hands make a man poor but diligent hands bring wealth.”

In the New Testament of the Bible there is another kind of wisdom mentioned – wisdom that allows us to understand more about God.

The Apostle Paul wrote this to the Ephesians: “I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you spiritual wisdom and revelation in your growing knowledge of him…”

Knowing God is an endless process because He Himself is infinite and we can never discover everything there is to know about Him. But we can pray, as Paul did, for spiritual wisdom.

Ephesians 1:16-17

“I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.”
