Poor in Spirit

In Matthew 5 Jesus says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” What does that mean - to be poor in spirit? And why would Jesus say that this is a blessed place to be?

Being poor in spirit means being at the end of yourself; void of spiritual strength.

Have you ever felt this way spiritually? I know I have. Why would Jesus say that we are blessed in that posture?

Those who are poor in spirit see themselves for who they really are: empty and destitute without Him. In that place of realizing our poverty, we turn to Him, and we can receive Him. His presence.

When we see ourselves for who we are, and we see Him for who He is, His kingdom invades our lives.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Always remember there is hope with God.

“When we see ourselves for who we are, and we see Him for who He is, His kingdom invades our lives.”

Matthew 5:3

“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.”
