Who's #1?

We’re used to seeing advertising that assures us we deserve the best. And some psychologists encourage you to love yourself first.

But in God’s kingdom, different standards are upheld. When a religious leader of Jesus’s day asked Him which is the most important commandment He replied, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself.”

That view of life is certainly different from our culture’s opinion. Instead of loving ourselves above all, God says we should love Him first, and we should care for others as much as we care for ourselves.

Will you join me in working towards fully obeying those two commandments? As we get to know God better we will love Him more. And as we find ways to help and care for people we know, we will grow in that obedience.

Matthew 22:37-39
