Unworthy

A few years ago we had a festival in beautiful Myrtle Beach. I remember it as if it was yesterday... the boardwalk and the sand, the smell of the ocean... And, I remember the people.

One woman, in particular, stands out in my memory. She’d resisted the Good News message but had lingered to talk. She became frustrated trying to describe her desperation. And at one point I said, “You feel unworthy?” And at that she exclaimed “Yes! That’s the word! I’m unworthy!”

And that is exactly it. We are all unworthy. That’s the beauty of God’s grace. It’s for unworthy people.

Hebrews 9:14 describes the work of that grace when it says that by the blood of Jesus, God will “cleanse your conscience from evil works, so that you may serve the living and true God.”

If you know someone who feels unworthy, share this verse with them. It’s life itself!

“We are all unworthy. That’s the beauty of God’s grace. It’s for unworthy people.”

Hebrews 9:14

“Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God.”
