Sharing Jesus

We hear lots of stories about people who strike up a conversation with a stranger on the bus, only to lead him or her to Christ before they reach their destination. Those are great stories, and God uses those random meetings to bring people into His family.

The Christian who introduces that stranger to Jesus was prepared, like the Bible says, to answer anyone who asked them “for a reason for the hope that is in [them].” (1 Peter 3:15). The reason is Jesus, and we should always be ready to share our faith.

Most people who come to know Christ, though, do so through a relationship with a friend, a co-worker, a relative, or a neighbor who knows Christ. These relationships may take a long time to cultivate; we may plant a seed but God is the one who makes it grow.

Day after day we show those around us God’s love, joy, and peace, and we wait for the day that seed grows into a tree that will bear fruit.

Being patient is hard, but if we continue to “honor Christ the Lord as holy” in our hearts and if we are always prepared to explain our faith with “gentleness and respect,” as 1 Peter says, we trust that the Lord will use us to bring those around us to him.

The important part is to always be ready to share the joy we have in Christ, whether it is with a stranger or our longtime neighbor.

We can be watching and waiting for an opportunity to be used by Jesus to bring others into His family.

1 Peter 3:15

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect
