Psalm 136

I’ve been told the secret to effective communication is repetition and review. Tell people what you are going to say, then say it. Then tell them what you said.

The writer of Psalm 136 was obviously following that principle. Four times he exhorts us to “give thanks.” And 26 times he reminds us that God’s “faithful love endures forever.”

If circumstances in your life are difficult right now, it can be hard to find reasons to give thanks.

Read Psalm 136 for yourself, then try this exercise. Write a list of things you know to be true about God. Then write down details of times when God answered your prayers and met your needs. Read through both lists, and at the end of each item add the words, “His faithful love endures forever.”

I’m sure you’ll find that will encourage you and bring warmth and light into your heart.
