God keeps His promises!

Have you ever felt the pain of a broken promise? It really hurts to feel let down—especially by the people who love us.

I have felt that pain. I have also felt the terrible remorse and regret of being the one who broke a promise.

Before I gave my life to the Lord, I promised my mom that I would go on a family vacation to Whistler, Canada. My mom worked hard to keep our family close and some generous family friends offered their cabin so that we could go on the sort of trip that we could not afford outright.

I was in college at the time, celebrating my 21st birthday. My fraternity brothers threw a raging bash that resulted in a four-day bender from bar to bar. I completely neglected to meet up with my family to make the journey to the vacation home. I was two whole days late.

It was one of the most painful promises I had broken—to my mom who had sacrificed so much for me. I was not walking with Jesus yet. We fail. We mess up—sometimes with blatant disregard for others and sometimes by accident.

People ask me all the time: “Does God really keep His promises?”

We each have handfuls of stories of how people have failed us—and so maybe you’re afraid that God will fail you just like that. But, no! God is not like us in that way.

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:13—

“...if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.” 2 Timothy 2:13

He keeps His promises! All throughout scripture we can be assured of this with powerful verses like:

“Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.” Joshua 21:45

“He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations…” Psalm 105:8

“Your promises have been thoroughly tested…” Psalm 119:140

So, friends, people may have failed you—and you may have let others down too, just as I did. But God is faithful. He keeps His promises. And He promises to save you, to be with you, and to deliver you home to eternity with Him!

In the days and weeks to come, I’ll be sharing more on the Promises of God on our Hope with God Facebook and Instagram accounts. I pray you’re strengthened in trusting His promises!
