Jesus and the Woman Caught in Adultery

There’s an amazing story in the book of John about Jesus’s interaction with a woman who’s caught in adultery. She’s brought to Jesus by a group of leaders, and they say to Jesus, “What do you say to this woman?”

He says, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the one to throw the first stone at her.” They all go away one by one. And Jesus says to her, “I don’t condemn you. Go now and leave your life of sin.”

What a contrast between the way the leaders treated this woman, and the way Jesus treated her!

  • They wanted to humiliate her. He cared for her.

  • They wanted to kill her. He protected her.

  • They wanted to point out her sin. He pointed a way to peace.

Do you feel condemned? Judged? Accused? Jesus offers you forgiveness and peace. Always remember, there is hope with God.

“Do you feel condemned? Judged? Accused? Jesus offers you forgiveness and peace.”

John 8:11

“No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
