Jesus Takes the Anger

There's a story in the book of John about a woman brought to Jesus. She's caught in the act of adultery, and an angry group of leaders bring her to Jesus, and they accuse her.

We're told that they didn't really care about her, they were just testing Jesus. And, of course, Jesus' response is so perfect and beautiful. He defends her, and He reveals their hypocrisy.

They came angry at her, but instead they leave angry at Him. So angry at Him, in fact, that they eventually murder Him.

Isaiah tells us that God laid on Jesus the sins of us all. The punishment that should be mine has been put on Jesus. This is the way of grace. This is the way of the cross. This is our hope.

“The punishment that should be mine has been put on Jesus. This is the way of grace. This is the way of the cross.”

Isaiah 53:6

“All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.”
