He Breaks the Chains

The Bible records more than 160 of God’s miracles. By miracles, I mean supernatural events that occurred only because the one true God made them happen.

One of my favorite miracles took place during the early days of the Christian Church.

The king had arrested the apostle Peter and had placed him behind bars, under heavy armed guard. On the night before his trial, Peter was fast asleep between two guards, with chains on his wrists.

Suddenly a bright light shone in the prison cell. An angel struck off Peter’s chains and told him, “Get dressed and follow me.” Peter stumbled out of the prison, thinking, “This whole thing must be a dream.” They passed two sets of guards and came to an iron gate, which swung open for them.

Jedi mind tricks have nothing on what the angel of the Lord can do. Right?

In that time of persecution, the young Church was strengthened and empowered by seeing this amazing miracle of God. I’m sure it gave them great courage.

Psalm 77:14

“You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples.”
