Fix Your Eyes on Eternity

I did ballet as a girl. One of the things I remember from all those ballet lessons was that when you're spinning, you have to fix your eyes on one direction or else you will lose your balance. Next time you watch a ballet dancers, you'll see that's exactly what they do.

The same concept holds true for our spiritual lives:

We must keep our hearts fixed on eternity to keep our balance in this world.

My husband and I endured a very sad season that lasted five years. We grieved the loss of three of our babies and it was so devastating. Through our tears and confusion, it was a challenge to understand what God was doing. But I remember reading this verse, in 2 Corinthians 4:18: "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

As I meditated deeply on this verse, I realized that my grief was overtaking me because I was fixing my eyes on my loss. I was looking at my circumstances, instead of looking at the eternal truth and promise of God—the promise that my babies were safe with Him in Heaven, and that one day, I would see them again.

I want to ask you today, my friends, what are you looking at? What are you fixing your eyes on? Does your life feel like it's spinning out of control? Are you looking at what is seen—the trouble of your circumstances? Or are you looking at what is unseen—the eternal things, the promises that God offers? God's promises are for you, today. Fix your eyes on Him!

I want to ask you today, my friends, what are you looking at? What are you fixing your eyes on?
