Fear of Abandonment

Many of us fear abandonment. In the Bible, we read of a woman named Mary who felt abandoned by Jesus.

She and her siblings were friends of Jesus. Then Mary’s brother Lazarus became seriously ill. She sent word to Jesus and asked Him to come.

But instead of rushing to Lazarus’s sickbed, Jesus waited two days. By the time He arrived, Lazarus was dead. In her grief Mary exclaimed, “If You had been here, our brother would not have died!”

Mary felt abandoned by Jesus, but He had a greater purpose – something even more beautiful and powerful than healing a sick man. He brought Lazarus back from the dead!

Over and over again God promises, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” Everyone else might leave you, reject you, but Jesus never will.

Joshua 1:5

“No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
